All visitors are
expected to report to the school office after being granted entrance via the
Guardian Angel or Mary entrances. Here they will register and receive a
visitor’s pass to be worn while visiting. Compliance with this rule will
help us to protect your child and his/her education from the disruption of
unauthorized visitors.
VISITING CLASSROOMS
Parents are encouraged to visit classes in
session during the school year. Visits usually should not exceed one class
period or one hour. Most teachers like to have the day well started before
visiting time. Parents will understand why the first and last weeks of each
semester, days prior to vacation, and scheduled testing times would preclude
visitation.
Generally
speaking, teachers appreciate knowing when they may expect visitors. Please
notify the teacher or principal before you visit. Conferences must always be
scheduled in advance. Small children who may disturb classes should not be
brought to school during visits. It is important that parents try to
understand the child’s role as he/she relates himself/herself to his/her
classmates. The teacher’s role as an instructional leader may not be
violated. As visitors you may enter quietly without distracting the
teacher’s attention from the work at hand. Teachers will be aware of your
presence and may wish to incorporate your presence into the activities.
In no instance should the teacher be taken from the children for a
discussion that should be scheduled for a conference.
Absolutely no
children, who are not enrolled at Saint Mary’s Catholic School, are allowed
to visit on any day unless arrangements have been made through the school
office and the principal has granted approval. Once approved, children must
be accompanied by parent, guardian, or other adult.
Without the
donated services of parents, college students, and high school students, our
school could not offer a broad enrichment program. Volunteers are needed for
library work, cafeteria duty, teacher's aides, office assistance, playground
supervision, coaches, and for the summer festival. Volunteers are asked to
contact a teacher, the principal, or the school office to offer their
services.
While
school personnel are concerned about utilizing volunteer service
effectively, legal considerations need to be adequately addressed by:
a)
conducting a background screening
b)
offering proper training / instruction
All volunteers
are asked to report in at the school office.
Younger
children and/or siblings should not accompany a parent when volunteering at
school.

& CAMPING EDUCATIONAL TRIPS

spring, Grades 7 & 8 students have the opportunity to travel to Washington,
D.C. or Chicago for an educational enrichment trip. Grades 5& 6 take part in
a camping experience. All students may participate if:
a)
Parent's permission is granted.
b)
All school bills are paid, including Extend-A-Care, Cafeteria meal
accounts and volunteer fees, tuition, library, and Home and School
Association fees.
c)
Behavior throughout the school year has been acceptable as outlined
in the "Behavior Expectations" section of this handbook.
A suspension at
any time during the school year may eliminate the student's eligibility for
this trip. After 3 Golden Rules or 5 detentions have been assigned, the
student will not be allowed to go on the trip. In addition, 3
"unsatisfactory" marks in the conduct section of the
report card or an "unsatisfactory" grade received in
a special area class will eliminate the student's eligibility to attend the
trip. In certain instances, children only be allowed to attend in the event
that one of his/her parents serves as a chaperone and are present on the
educational trip.
