Students in
grades K-5 will be taken outside for recess each day before/after his/her
lunch period. Recess is an age appropriate activity for students in these
grade levels. Due to state minimum instructional time requirements for
middle school, students in grades 6-8 will not be participating in recess,
but, rather, have a 30 minute lunch period to allow for increased social
interaction. A walking club will be provided within their lunch period to
promote physical fitness and wellness.
A recess period
will last between 15-20 minutes. Recess is a privilege not a right.
Misbehavior will result in a loss of this privilege.
Although
volunteers are encouraged to assist teachers in supervising the playground,
it is the assigned teacher who has the ultimate responsibility during the
supervision.
We
will be going outside as often as possible during the winter months.
Therefore, please make sure your child has appropriate outer garments
for these times.
Parents are encouraged to withhold requests that their child be permitted to
remain in the classroom during recess, except on rare occasions, and then
only with a written excuse. If you do not want your child to go outside
because of a medical reason, please send us a note specifying the reason and
the time period he/she should be kept in the building. Our nurse may contact
you if there is a concern. It is against Indiana State law for students to
remain in the building unsupervised.
No
tag, Dodge Ball, or roughhousing will be allowed. Playground rules will be
discussed with each class at the beginning of the year.
Parents have
access to their child's record file within a twenty-four hour notice.
Non-custodial parents are entitled to a copy of the original record.
Report cards are
distributed every nine weeks. Please review the school calendar periodically
to determine when cards are due. Please sign the report cards and return
them to school to your child’s homeroom teacher. A fee will be charged for a
new report card if the old one is not returned.
The grades a student receives in his/her
subjects are based on test results, class participation, and written work.
Students are also graded on conduct and effort.
Papers are sent home periodically to keep parents aware of their child's
progress. Academic progress reports are issued midway through the grading
periods.
If
questions arise regarding a student's progress, parents are contact the
teacher to make an appointment to arrange a convenient time for discussing
this problem with the respective teacher(s).
Report cards will be withheld at the end of each quarter if tuition is not
paid in full.TABLE
