St. Mary's School
will closely follow the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation's
calendar. The school calendar will be issued to parents on or before
registration day.
In
case of emergency closing of the school or late opening due to inclement
weather or other causes, St. Mary's will abide by the NA-FC School
Corporation's decision. The announcement can be heard on radio WNAS 88.1 FM,
WHAS 84 AM, and the television station WHAS on channel 11.
Whenever school openings are delayed two hours due to
inclement weather, the school day will begin at 10:10 a.m. and the doors
will be unlocked at 9:45 a.m. The morning Extend-A- Care program will begin
at 9:15 a.m. In the event that a delay would be called on an Early
Dismissal Day, the inservice will be cancelled and students will attend a
full day.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS, TELEPHONE,
EMPLOYMENT
Please notify the
school office immediately if you have a change of address, telephone, or
employment during the school year. Up-to-date address records are essential
for emergency and administrative reasons.
Cheating is a
serious compromise of a student's integrity and will not be tolerated. If
cheating is discovered, the student's work will be confiscated. A grade of
0% will automatically be recorded for the work, and parents will be
notified.
The Cougar
Weekly, SMCS’s newsletter, will be sent home each Friday or on the last day
of the school week. The Cougar Weekly will be sent home in the Cougar
Communicator Folder. The newsletter will contain the weekly menu, cafeteria
workers and information concerning special activities, field trips, or
events that will occur during the upcoming week. Please make certain that
you read this carefully each week. The newsletter will also be posted on
the school’s website www.smcsonline.com.
Use
of the telephone by children will be determined by the principal and office
staff. Telephone lines are so busy, only much-needed calls will be
permitted. We encourage responsibility among our students and request that
all arrangements for transportation and school supplies be made prior to the
beginning of the school day. For safety reasons, we require that a note is
sent to the teacher and office staff should a child’s transportation
arrangements be different from his/her normal routine.
All objects other than required school
materials must be approved by the classroom teachers before bringing them to
school- i.e. IPODS,tape recorders, CD players, video games, playground
equipment, etc.
Students may
not utilize pagers, palm pilots, or any type of portable phone system
(cellular phones) in the school building. These items are prohibited and
will be confiscated if any disruption occurs. Confiscated items will be
returned at the discretion of school administration.
The
curriculum of Saint Mary’s Catholic School is based on the Indiana Academic
Standards and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Curriculum Guides. Parents
will be provided a copy of the Indiana Academic Standards for their child’s
grade level each fall of the school year. Additional information regarding
the Indiana Academic Standards can be found at the Indiana Department of
Education web site at www.doe.state.in.us.
